Anti-Fractal Academy Empty
PostSubject: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptyWed Jul 16, 2014 5:46 pm

Welcome to Anti-Fractal Academy!
The science institute of the age, all the most important discoveries have come out of AF for the last thirty years. Together we can boldly step into the future and discover things that are only present in our wildest dreams.
As a new or current student at Anti-Fractal Academy you can enroll in a wide variety of classes to further your scientific education. Whether your interest is in building robots or cracking the codes of our genetic makeup. You can go wherever you want, accomplish anything, as long as you have the will to learn.
New student orientation is today. All current students are asked to help the guests on our campus whenever possible. Thank you.

As a student of Anti-Fractal Academy you will continue your education into a more specialized field of scientific pursuit. Each student is responsible for getting to and from classes on time and whatever projects they are working on. Together with everyone else on campus we can all work together to better understanding of science and doing some crazy experiments.

All students are human. However experiments can be done to change this later on. Robots/androids and other beings created through experiments can be played as they are created. They are considered as test subjects, regardless of how their creators treat them. Revolutions are not tolerated! This is a no magic RP. We don't need any of that stuff messing with our science. You can be a new student or have been one for some time now. The character creation follows these rules:
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Area of Study:
Year:
Club Affiliation(Optional):

Name: Because you need to name your character something. Unless your character has no name, in which case you could say that and we'll just use three dots, ... Like so.

Gender: This is either your character's biological sex at birth or whatever they are as a member of the LGBT community.

Age: Because your character has existed for X amount of time. Whatever this is can be up to you.

Area of Study: This is your character's major. The field they are working in. Robotics, biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy. Pretty much any type of science. Wormhole research, interdimensional travel, quantum physics. Whatever you want. Just give a brief description of what it is and if it's a real science or study link something so we can figure it out better if we need to. (Real fields of study are preferred by me. If you wanna do something unrealistic with it feel free. Example being a psychology/neurology major working on brainwashing and mind control. Or like AI by putting people into computers n stuff.)

Year: How long your character has attended AF.

Club Affiliation: Just like any good anime or school show, Anti-Fractal Academy has student clubs. Each club has its own goals and activities. Be it space aliens, proving ghosts exist, trying to disprove science, The Mad Scientists Guild.  This is an optional area. Clubs may be created and/or joined at any point in the RP.

I will try to keep listings of all active characters in the second post for this RP.

A few other bits. AF is a college/boarding school. This means that students live on campus and have dorms and roommates. Test subjects live in their own dorm section. (The ones with consciousness) While not technically students they are treated ethically.
How the story works: Think of this like a Star Trek episode. (Probably not the best analogy) All of us are doing crazy science things. And through our crazy exploits we end up endangering the world quite a bit. So we need to save it from the problems we unleash. Ultra lethal viruses, genocidal sub-species, space bunnies, etc.
Please direct any questions to me either through Private Messages on the site or PM me through Skype. I'll get back to you as promptly as possible.

"Hey, Cyn, you in here?" Claire called opening the door. Cynthia grabbed the nearest available item to cover herself from view.
"Claire!" She cried plaintively, face turning red. "Can't you knock like a normal person?"
"Is that any way to talk to your old roommate?"
"You know how I feel about that!"
"I'm sorry, Cyn." Claire said and hugged Cynthia from behind.
"Anyway," Cynthia said shrugged Claire off. "How is Danny doing?"
Claire walked slowly around the messy room. "Still as neat and organized as always. I sure don't miss this." She said holding up a pair of underwear.
"P-Put those down!" Cynthia moved across the room to grab the piece of clothing from her friend who held it just out of reach. Eventually she gave up and sat dejectedly on the small sofa. Claire sighed and let the underwear fall to the floor in more or less their previous position.
"Dan's holding up okay. Well, considering."
"Yeah. Does he still want to talk?"
"With you?" A small mischievous smile came back onto her face. "Everyone wants to talk to you! I'm jealous you know." Cynthia's face flushed. "I'm just teasing you."
The two sat in silence, looking around the single person dorm room.
"We should go, before the halls are too crowded." Cynthia said. Claire nodded and the two walked out of the room and off towards the boy's dorm.

Anti-Fractal Academy Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptySat Jul 26, 2014 3:04 pm

After orientation, Ethan walked around the school campus while occasionally glancing at a map he held tightly in his hands.
"Let's see...If I'm here, then...wait, that's not right."
He stared more intently at the map, trying to figure something out.
"Wait a minute...oh, I see now! I must have taken a wrong turn right about here, which means...yeah, I'm way off. Oh, man..."
He let out a groan and his shoulders sagged. But he soon composed himself again and started making his way to the boy's dormitory. Along the way, to his surprise, he noticed two female students walking the same way he was.
"Crap...they're going the same way I am. Are they heading for the guy's dorms too or did I make another wrong turn?"
Thinking this to himself, he nervously looked back and forth between the map, the two students and the way he was walking. He wanted to ask them about it, but he couldn't work up the courage to do so.

Anti-Fractal Academy Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptyWed Aug 06, 2014 11:25 am

OOT: I'm sorry for taking so long DM. School stuff has been bugging me lately and I've had a devil of a time with my sleep pattern. Bloody summer. I'll try to reply regularly from now on if it's possible.

The walk to the Boy's dorm was accomplished by the years old pattern of habit. Cynthia was too lost in thought as the two of them walked together through the crowded campus. At the beginning Claire had tried to make light conversation about the new students coming in this year but she'd quickly realized that Cynthia wasn't in a talking mood. Puzzling out how she was going to help Dan was too big of a priority to deal with idle thoughts of new students.
For a moment Cynthia lost herself in the hopelessness of the task before her. How many of these students will need The Survivors before they graduate? How many will be survivors? There was no way to no and she drew herself from that train of thought with a deep breath.
The campus was in the embrace of fall. Almost all of the trees had shifted from green life to the subtle hues of brown decay. People were milling about the main square, dressed in a variety of outfits while the uniformed figures of students moved among the throng. Passing the square they moved through quieter sections only seeing a few students here and there. Some waved and the two waved back. Most of them knew Cynthia well enough or knew of her to recognize when she was thinking with a purpose.
But how to help Dan? Going through what he had was...difficult. Not just on his psyche but even to believe. Even now Cynthia could barely wrap her head around the reports he and the other two that had escaped had given. They couldn't be blamed for being reckless, they'd taken every precaution they'd known off. She couldn't hold the lack of information that didn't exist against them.
"Hey Cyn." Claire poked her arm bringing her from her thoughts.
"What?" Claire pointed to a confused looking boy standing on the path and looking all around him. A map clutched in his hands, a look of confusion and uncertainty plastered on his face. "He must be a new student. Could you help him? I'll go on ahead."
"Alright. I won't be much use to you up there anyway." Claire said with a small grin. "Go make sure our survivor stays that way."
"I'll do my best." Without saying more the two parted. Claire continued on towards the new student while Cynthia went into the Boy's dorm.
A tidy reception area sat immediately past the entryway. There was a small sitting area with a TV showing a sports game. A small group was sitting there talking while the game went on in the background. Cynthia stopped briefly to ask for directions though she already knew where to go.
"Dan is a good friend of mine. Bring him out of this, okay sis?" One of the boys asked her as she left. She assured him she'd do her best and continued on her way.
The hallways were active but quiet as she ascended to the correct floor. A few of the male students waved as she passed them on the stairs. Many of the ones who she greeted voiced their concerns for their dorm mate. With each person she assured them that she'd do everything she could to help him through this ordeal. Eventually she was a floor below the one Dan lived on when an older student stopped her.
"It isn't safe to go up there." He spoke calmly.
"It's fine, I'm well prepared to face any danger."
"He's lost his mind." As if to confirm this an animal like howl came from above them. "Whatever he saw, it's eating away at him. Everyone on his floor are crashing with their friends. Everyone's scared."
"That's why I'm here." Cynthia said calmly.
"I can't let you up there. I have no idea what he'll do to you in his state."
"That's very noble of you. But I have a job to do. Survivors keep on surviving. Come with me if you want."
"I'll be waiting just inside the door. Yell if you need me." He said. She nodded and he stepped aside to let her past. The Survivors club members had a reputation of being tough, regardless of what horrors lie ahead of them. Some of the more artistic students had filled their club room with pictures of heroic knights in shining armor.
Opening the door to the fourth floor was like entering a new world. Where the previous floors had been brightly lit this one was almost pitch black. A few lights flickered at the other end of the hallway. Suppressing a shudder she stepped into the darkness letting the door close behind her. A few moments later it opened again and she looked back to see the student that stopped her a few moments before take a position right next to the door, his foot holding it open to admit the light from the stairway into the hall. He nodded to her and she started moving again.
A noxious smell seemed to come from the floor as her footsteps echoed on the decayed carpet and solid concrete. An unidentifiable musk that was part body odor and part something she could only describe as wrong, laced with a hint of sulfur. As her eyes grew accustomed to the dim light she began to make out odd markings carved into the walls. They seemed to pulse with an inky darkness. This combined with the smell brought a throbbing to her temples and a feeling of ice in her veins.
Dan's room was 416. She checked the nearest door, 408. Counting the dark shapes of doorways in the darkness she picked Dan's out and quickly made her way to it. A low red, like the emergency lighting in war movies, came from the crack at the bottom of the door. Swallowing her uncertainty she raised on hand and knocked on the door.
"Dan? It's Cynthia. From The Survivors." She waited but there was no response. "Dan? Can I come in? I just want to talk to you."

"Hi, I'm Claire." She said cheerfully extending her hand. "And you must be Lost."

Anti-Fractal Academy Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptyFri Aug 08, 2014 9:00 am

OOT: No problem, I've been a little slow when it comes to the RP site myself.

Ethan was so focused on his map that he didn't even notice the girl walking up to him.
"Yeah...this is the only thing that makes sense. This has gotta be the right way."
When she spoke to him, he was a little startled.
"Oh, um...hello, Claire."
He laughed and shook her hand.
"Nice wordplay, that's actually pretty funny."
Even though he felt pretty nervous talking to someone he didn't know-- and to make it worse, a girl-- he still managed an awkward smile.
"Actually, my name's Ethan. This is my first time here and I'm trying to make my way to the boys' dorms. I thought I finally had it figured out, but then I saw you and your friend there going the same way...so I started to wonder if I messed up again."
He scratched his chin as a thought came to him.
"Of course, I guess it's possible that you might've had something to do at the boys' dorm...huh, I didn't even think of that before."
He looked back up at Claire.
"So...was I going the wrong way, or were you going to the boys' dorm?"

Anti-Fractal Academy Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptyMon Aug 11, 2014 4:04 pm

"Thank you," she said with a little giggle at his compliment of her "joke."
"No, that's the boy's dorm overt here," she pointed with her thumb, "But I'm not sure if right now is the best time to get you moved in. We should probably come back later." Taking his hand she pulled him along, not giving him much choice in coming along with her.
"So you're a first year, right? I think it's time we give you the unofficial tour of campus. Don't' worry, with me at the helm you'll have this place figured out in no time!" She said with a gleeful grin on her face.
We also might keep you from the dark underside we don't like to talk about here. I need to give Cyn time to get this business settled. I have no idea what might happen.

--------------------------------------------

There was an odd humming coming from the other side of the door that gave Cynthia a chill down her spine. Something here was not right. Her gut was screaming at her to run but she held her ground. The red glow seemed to illuminate more and more of the hallway bringing the odd markings into clearer and clearer focus. They kept pulsing in a rhythm she couldn't time and the pounding in her head was getting worse. The feeling in her gut was growing more insistent that she should turn and run when an odd sounding voice came from the other side of the door.
"Cynthia?" It asked, as though tasting the way it sounded. "Why should I let you in?"
"Dan. I just want to make sure you're doing okay. Especially... especially after what happened. And then Devon and Craig... I just want to talk."
A rustling came from the other side and a noise that sounded like a thousand clawed hands scrabbling at the other side of the door. Cynthia felt all the hairs on her body stand on end at that skittering sound. The door opened allowing more of the demonic red light into the hallway.
Demonic? She wondered idly at her labeling of the light with a detached part of her mind.
Dan's face appeared in the crack and she involuntarily took a step back.
"Cynthia?" He asked looking around the hallway until he spotted her. His face took on a predatory grin. "Please, come in. I'd very much like to talk to you."
He held the door open for her but she found that she was firmly rooted in place. She looked at Dan in the light and saw the same marks covering the walls and door on his skin. His longish hair was wild and unkempt, he wore no shirt and his pants were torn. The dark red and black marks shimmered sickeningly as he gestured again for her to come in. There were trails running from several of the marks that obscured others. With a horrific curiosity she realized it was blood.
"Please, come inside." He said with a purring quality to his voice.
Before she knew what was happening she had already stepped past the threshold. Dan closed the door behind her, but not all the way.
"You wanted to talk to me?" He asked taking a seat on the couch and stretching out comfortably. His position indicated he wanted her to join him. Instead she took a seat at the edge of his bed. Looking round the dorm room was just as hectic as its occupants appearance. Torn posters hung from the walls, a ceiling fan spun lazily, a couple of the fan blades cracked in half while clothes and several unidentifiable things in the red glow littered the floor.
"Yes I did. I don't know what you saw, or how horrible it was. But if you want to talk to me about it you can. I'll listen as well as I'm able. And I'm sorry, for Devon and Craig. I didn't really know them all that well, but maybe if I could have talked with them..." She clenched her teeth thinking of the two deceased students.
"Don't worry about them, they're fine." Dan said with a dismissive wave of his hand. The look on her face must have given her away because he laughed, it was a chilling inhuman sound. "You'll understand soon enough."
"What do you mean?" He chuckled again at her obvious distress. "Anyway," she said nervously smoothing out her skirt, "Can you tell me what happened? All I know is that you said your club, Occult Observations, had a vigil a week ago and that you summoned something."
"It was a normal enough meeting. None of us really thought anything would happen, but as scientists we had to try it. SO we drew the circle, drew every mark with painstaking accuracy. Then we completed the called upon sacrifices. Do you know how hard it is to smuggle live animals onto this campus? It's a pain in the ass but we got them. I cut both of their throats personally, then as their blood covered the floor we all began the chant, taking it up one after another. When we finished we all held our breath and looked around." He paused for effect. "Nothing had happened though. of course, we thought. Yet another old tale debugged. We had started cleaning up and Darrel wiped one of the marks away, it had been drawn incorrectly the first time, but when he erased it to its proper configuration the circle had taken the energy we charged and activated.
"It started as a hum, then built into a roar. We all thought it was an earthquake or a tornado, then someone, I think Tony, noticed that the circle was glowing and the blood was congealing. It twisted and rose up before our eyes to form something the English language, no human language, can describe. Then it dropped into a simple humanoid shape. We watched it and it watched us. Then it spoke, its voice thundering in our skulls. It felt as though my very being was being shaken apart. I think that's when all the others except the three of us died, they were torn apart by that thing." His words seemed rushed, as though he was trying to get through this as soon as possible and on to something else.
"What did it say to you?"
"I have no idea. It spoke in the same language as the marks we put on the floor and walls. These ones," he said holding up his arm for her to see.
"Why did you do that to yourself?"
"Because it was the only way." His voice took on an odd lilt. "Cynthia, I want to ask you something."
"What is it?" Something about his tone put her even farther on edge.
"Why do you hide what you are?"
"What I am?"
He was across the room so fast that her cry of shock was nothing but a slight gurgle. His hand clamped vise-like around her neck. Instinctively her hands came up to try and protect her airway. His hand was stone, it couldn't be budged. Her head felt light and she felt her body weaken, vision start to bubble and go dark. Then he let the pressure off but didn't take his hand away and she began to cough.
"Why do you hide what you are?" He repeated the question
"Let me go! Now!" She shouted angrily, attempting to push him away.
"Tell me!" He roared, the force of his voice immediately cowed her. While she was stunned he pulled her up by her neck and held her against the wall.
"Please, let me go." She said with a shaking voice. She had to struggle to hold herself up, using his arm as a support so she wouldn't choke.
"You know, there are ways to become anything." he said enticingly, his other hand brushed against her leg. "All one has to do is wish fervently at the right time and place. I know what you are, Blasphemer." The voice was no longer Dan's. It had an aura to it. Menacing, dominating, so full of power.
"What are you?"
"My name means nothing to you." The creature laughed through Dan's mouth. "You realize, I can give you want you want. I can take every doubting thought, every fear away in an instant. You will become whole, instead of half." Her eyes went wide as his hand brushed up against her secret. He laughed. "Surrender yourself and I will make your only desire come true. Do as I say." It commanded.
She had to close her eyes, had to break the controlling gaze his fiery eyes held over her. The words came to her fro mfr in the past, her mothers favorite saying. Clinging to the words like a mantra she said it over and over until her words were a shout. It was having an effect, the demon's free hand was now covering one of its ears to block out the damaging phrase.
"Insolent bitch!" It boomed. It's fist rocketed into her gut and all the air in her lungs exploded out of her mouth in a choked gasp. The creature let her drop to the ground and snapped his fingers. Two people entered the room. Cynthia looked up in shock and terror at the gruesome visages that were Devon and Craig.
They set upon her with cruel intentions. Her cries and sobs fell upon deaf ears. When they had finished she lay trembling on the bed, wrists and ankles bound tightly.
"Now my dear." The demon said affectionately, "Will you not submit? I will make your dream a reality." He curled some of her hair around his finger.
Cynthia didn't say anything. Instead she screwed her eyes shut and began to pray for everything to be over.
"You can't hide from me, Boy." The demon shouted in her mind, spitting the last word derisively. It felt like her head would explode as the demon kept talking to her. The word "Boy" kept bouncing around, seeming to shatter her thoughts just like a rock bouncing wall to wall in a fun house. A high pitched keening filled the room. The creature slapped her hard with the back of Dan's hand. Cynthia fell silent.
"If you won't submit, I will take what is mine." Marks began to burn into her skin and she screamed again. The ceiling directly above her became a mirror so that she could watch as his possessive mark appeared on her cheek and around her navel he placed a duplicate of his summoning circle. His dark laughter echoed in the room and her head, leaving her as a whimpering husk of a person.

---------------------------------------

Three gloved fingers held up in the red light. Two. One. The hand closed into a fist. The door was kicked inward and a small group of men clad in all black rushed into the room, weapons ready. They took in the scene before them and opened fired mercilessly. The three male students surrounding the bed fell. One had his head blown into a fine mist by a shotgun blast. The other fell in two as a blade cut through muscle and bone like butter. The third fell with a gaping hole where the heart had been.
Laughing the demon in possession of Dan's body slowly got to its feet.
"Fools!" It boomed at the intruders.
"Silence." The point man said. Drawing a cross shaped stake from a sheath on his thigh he stabbed the blade through Dan's head. The cry of the exorcised monster cracked the walls and shattered glass. Then it was silent, dead silent. Nothing moved, nothing breathed.
The light flickered back to life slowly. It was now its regular faux sunlight and the four black clad members surveyed the scene before them. All targets eliminated. As one they went to their knees, took the crosses around their necks in their hands and sent up a prayer. Once they were finished they turned their attention to the other boy on the bed. His body had been marked by the demon and was open to it's possession now that it's hot had been destroyed.
Unscrewing the caps of their flasks, they poured the contents onto the nude body bound to the mattress. A high pitched scream came as the water boiled on the student's skin. A human scream, they all took a sigh of relief.
The student's eyes shot open and flicked over everything in the still dim lighting.
"Don't try to talk yet." The leader said to him. Wrapping him in a spare blanket from on of the other rooms they escorted him from the dorm room. Another student came rushing down the hall, he held a knife in one hand.
"What did you do to her?" He asked angrily, body tense.
"We saved him." The student's weapon arm dropped slightly. "Where can we take him to rest?" The soldier asked.
"Come with me." The student grumbled and led them towards the stairs. Cynthia trudged along in the middle of the group in a daze.

Anti-Fractal Academy Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptyTue Aug 12, 2014 7:03 am

Before Ethan could object-- or even decide if he wanted to object or not-- he found himself being pulled along by Claire.
"Um...y-yeah, sure."
That was the only response he could manage for now. He felt his face turning a little red as he followed along. Trying to take his mind off of the fact that he'd been holding onto a girl's hand for this long, he averted his gaze and nervously tried to make small talk.
"So, it sounds like you know this place pretty well. How long have you been here, and what kinda subject are you majoring in?"

Realizing the boy's discomfort, Claire let go of his hand.
"Sorry about dragging you." She sat down on a nearby bench. "This is my third year. I'm studying biology. Gene therapy, DNA sequencing. I'm a splicer. I make chimera, or try to. I haven't been very successful so far." She looked into the distance for a moment, a wry grin on her face.
"So, Ethan, what brings you to Fractal?"

-----------------------------------------------

The members of Watch had left, leaving Russel and Cynthia alone. Cynthia was wrapped in the sheet, trembling uncontrollably. Her mouth moved wordlessly though no sound came out. He tried talking to her, but she refused to respond, her mind too entranced by whatever had happened. He noticed the dark marks on the left side of her face; three lines going from the corner of her eye, the corner of her mouth, and the side of her nostril to the corner of her jaw. An S with a dot in the center of both curves sat on her cheek. As he watched, it seemed as though the marks were fading in color. As they faded, she seemed to come slowly back to reality.
During this time, he tried numerous methods of getting her attention, even pulling the sheet from her grasp to shock her back to reality with her nudity. He couldn't get it from her white-knuckled grasp. besides, he didn't really want to think about what the Watch leader had said. Cynthia was a girl, a very prominent member of the survivors, the club that makes sure everyone's okay after serious traumatic events take place. They were essentially the academy's grief counselors, but everyone that had been a student for at least a year knew how important the group was. As things stood, the Survivors and the Watch battled for the top spot occasionally in campus politics.
Cynthia groaned and her eyes lost their glazed over look. "Where am I?"
"The sitting area for the fifth floor of the Boy's Dormitory." Russel told her.
"I...see" She said slowly. The marks on her cheek were barely noticeable now. They were light grey in color and appeared to be dust that almost blended in perfectly with her natural skin color.
"Do you remember what happened with Dan?" He asked her seriously. She only nodded in reply.
"Survivors survive." She said weakly.
"Survivors survive." He repeated the club's motto. Basically it said that no matter what happened, or what someone sees or experiences, there is a way to go on living.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really. It's...it's too horrible to even think about. My mind is forcing me to forget to keep me sane. It's just a blurred dream to me."
He nodded. She seemed to have gone back to being her normal self, but there was just the tiniest hint in her voice of unbalance.
"Are you feeling okay?"
"Well enough." She seemed to finally figure out where she was. "I need some clothes." She asked fragily.
"I'll be back. I can't promise it'll fit very well."
Once the other student had left Cynthia let the facade she built fall. Tears streamed down her cheeks and she barely made it to the waste bin across the room before she filled the bottom inch with vomit. It was true, she could only remember a few snatches of what had happened in her confrontation with Dan, but the bits she remembered chilled her blood.
I will overcome this! She thought determinedly. It took a while for the boy to come back. In his hands he held a boy's uniform. She took it, careful not to let the sheet drop from her body.
He led her down the stairs to the floor below, telling other students to stay in their rooms in an attempt to protect Cynthia's modesty. As he walked her to the floor bathroom, he made note of the students who snuck a peek through their doors. He wouldn't make too big a deal out of it. But the next time he saw them he'd say a couple words about seeing things they shouldn't. Hell, even though he knew, all he could see was a girl when he looked at Cynthia. It was a challenge, but he kept his eyes averted as he opened the door for her to go inside. He then waited outside the door to keep anyone from going inside.
It took longer than Russel imagined it would, but eventually Cynthia came out in the long pants and dress shirt of the male students' uniform.
"Wow." He said in a bit of shock as she stood there looking up at him. Despite the long hair and the feminine look of her face, he now saw a young man, instead of a girl. So she really was...
"How long do you think before everyone can move back in upstairs?" She asked heading down the hall. She walked oddly in the clothing, the unfamiliar uniform clearly made her uncomfortable.
"The Watch guys said they'd put the notification in. They were kinda upset that you went in. They said you were being reckless."
"Didn't you try to tell me the same thing?"
"I did." He glimpsed the edge of a sad smile on her face. Her left cheek looked like it was covered in dirt.
"Thank you. Even though I put myself in danger, thank you for warning me." She said, turning around to face him suddenly.
"Don't worry about it." He said quietly, feeling small from her penetrating gaze. "So, what are you going to do?"
"First I'll get a better outfit. Not that there's anything wrong with this," she pinched some of her shirt and stretched it out, "But it's not really my style. Then I'll go tell Ryan about what happened, to the best of my memory."
They made it to the entrance in silence. He held the door for her as she left the building.
"Hey," he called out to her, "If you're ever going into something like that again. If you need someone to go with you, not that you're not okay by yourself. But if you'd feel safer with someone there with you, feel free to come find me. I'm Russel."
"Okay Russel. If I ever feel I need a hand I'll let you know."
She made a straight line to the girls' dorm, pushing her way through the still gathered groups of parents and new students. She must have been putting off something, because people quickly got out of her way when they saw her coming. She was back in her dorm in no time.

Anti-Fractal Academy Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptyFri Aug 22, 2014 3:27 pm

Ethan was clearly impressed as he looked back at Claire.
"Wow, a real chimera. That'd be something to see!"
He folded his arms in thought.
"Well...I've been doing a lot of work in the area of cybernetics. You know, androids, robots, cybernetic enhancements and nanomachines. Especially nanomachines. You see..."
A smile came to his face as he started remembering his early years.
"...When I was a young boy, I got sick very easily. I spent a lot more time at home than I did outside, so I didn't have very many friends. I...I sorta hated it at first, but when I found out that I have a gift for science, I decided to stop moping and put all that spare time I had to good use. While all the other kids were out playing, I was taking my first steps into the world of cybernetics. It was still kinda lonely, but I enjoyed myself all the same."
He laughed and shook his head.
"I kept saying that I'd use my inventions to make myself better...ironically, the problem sorted itself out. As I got older, I slowly became healthier all on my own. By the time I was in high school, I was just as healthy as any other student in the school. I even thought of joining a sports team if you can believe that! But, you know...I still kept up with my research because even though I didn't really need it anymore, I came to love it so much over the years. There's another reason, but...well, I won't get into that. In fact..."
He stopped in his tracks and his face turned bright red as he came back to his senses.
"Um...oh man, I think I've said way too much already! I-I'm sorry about that, Claire. I didn't mean to give you my whole life story! How weird is that, saying all that stuff to someone I just met?"
He let out an obviously fake laugh and averted his eyes.

PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptyFri Aug 22, 2014 6:49 pm

Claire smiled and covered her mouth with one hand to hide her giggle.
"You're just a bit nervous. I think it's cute." She stretched out and let her head fall back so she could stare up at the sky. "That's pretty noble of you. My goals come from a more selfish ideal. You know how in every show for kids there are all those weird creatures that look like crosses between a whole bunch of things? I've always wanted to see an actual one living. But over time it turned into a little bit more. I'd like to make viable chimeras from animal stock, but what I'd really like to accomplish is splicing human DNA with animal DNA. Imagine the untapped potential! We could finally search our oceans, live in hostile environments, maybe even splice random things on just for aesthetic pleasure. This could be the key to our evolution. Alongside technological progress of course. Without our technology we'd still be throwing our poop into the streets from windows."
She took a long breath. Then looked at him.
"What do your folks think about you coming here? I know there are plenty of people who hate what we do behind these walls."

---------------------------------------------

The warm water gave some semblance of control back. Cynthia sighed as she imagined all the horrible feelings and the fear washing away down the drain with the water. After a long time she finally twisted the knob and shut the water off. Stepping into the small curtained off area she toweled off then put one of her uniforms on. The way the soft fabric felt on her skin lifted even more of her stress away. She folded the male uniform carefully then carried it back to her dorm room. She'd have someone take it back to Russel after dinner that evening.
She closed her eyes and sighed loudly. It was time for her to go and report what had happened.
The trip across campus was lost to her as she made the trek on autopilot. Her mind was too busy putting her report together in her head. it was going to be difficult. Especially knowing how big Ryan was on the details of things.

"I see. Thank you for your hard work. I'm sorry for what happened." Ryan said comfortingly. He sat across from her in the club's headquarters. The room was sparsely furnished and set up with the same theme as the Oval Office. (A desk with windows behind it, two couches across from one another with a coffee table between them.) "I have to apologize to you, Cynthia. I knew what their club had been looking into, and I never considered the possibilities of what you might have been going in against. I should have sent someone else, or at least made sure you weren't going alone."
Cynthia shook her head at this. "Don't beat yourself up over it." She was surprised at how cold her voice was, but didn't show it.
"Still though, after hearing Zacharia's report of what they saw..."
"Zacharia was here?" She asked suspiciously. The two of them had never been on good terms. Not everyone agreed with allowing her to act the way she wanted to.
"He stopped by right after he left you in the Boy's Dormitory."
"I see."
"He was professional. He had nothing to say about you subjectively."
"That's good to hear."
"Anyway," He stood up and walked to his desk. "I suggest you talk with someone before you leave. Maybe Mary or Joshua. Someone you trust. I don't want to have to worry about you. You're one of the best we have to offer."
"Thank you for your concern. I might just do that."
"Afterwards, you should probably take a break. I'm thankful for everything you've done for us. but I want to be sure that this episode is behind you. Consider yourself on a leave of absence for the next few weeks, just as a precaution."
"Very well, Ryan." She didn't bother to hide the anger in her voice.
She left the room, closing the door a little too hard on her way out.
How could he just pull her off of club duties like that? It wasn't fair! She was the best he had. Another part of her brain chimed in through her indignation. He does have a point though. This whole issue could have ruined us permanently.
Cynthia hadn't planned on going to one of her fellow club members for psychoanalysis, but thinking about it, it would probably be the smart thing to do.

PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptySat Aug 23, 2014 4:36 am

Ethan groaned at the question.
"It took a while to convince them, that's for sure. They tried to give me all kinds of reasons why I shouldn't come here. It's too dangerous, It's not a school with more prestige like Yale or Harvard, it's a place where weird, creepy mad scientists go...I've heard it all from them."
He let out a heavy sigh.
"It took so long to talk them into it. But I finally did because they knew that this is what I really want to do with my life. And...because they knew that I wasn't going to give up on it, no matter what. I pretty much told them that I wasn't going to apply for any college at all if it wasn't here."
He smiled just a little.
"It finally worked, and here I am. It was a lot of trouble but I'm glad I went through with it. How about you? How'd your family take it?"

PostSubject: Re: Anti-Fractal Academy   Anti-Fractal Academy EmptySat Aug 23, 2014 11:18 am

Claire grabbed her left bicep with her right hand and looked away from Ethan, towards the ground. A sad expression came onto her face.
"They died a few years back. My parents, brother, sister. It was a care accident. I don't know who didn't stop for the stop sign, but the end result was their car got T-boned into a ditch by a semi. It had been raining a lot so it was pretty full. It was a big drainage ditch. If they weren't killed by the impact, they drowned in the water. The rest of them, aunts, uncles and stuff, they all lived in the far corners of the country or in other countries. Our family never really got along well with any of them, so no one really wanted me. I just kind of...wandered for a while before ending up here."
She took a breath.
"Probably needs more explanation. I was living on the streets and feeling like shit. I saw a poster saying they were to try some new medical stuff. A drug or something, and see what it does. So I walked up to the gate, covered in dirt, clothes in rags, and asked if they'd let me be a test subject. I was turned away at first, but someone high up in the administration heard about me, and somehow they tracked me down and took me in. I've been living here ever since then."

Ethan's eyes went wide in shock.
"That's horrible...I...I'm sorry. I had no idea."
Despite Claire's calm composure, Ethan looked like he was on the verge of tears.
"I shouldn't have even brought it up. I didn't mean to...you know...bring back bad memories like that."
He let out a sigh.
"I've always been terrible when it comes to stuff like this. I just...I mean, I just never know what to say at a time like this. But hey, um..."
He took a second to think about what to say.
"But if you ever want to talk about it...about your past or anything else that's on your mind...I can at least listen and maybe, I dunno, give you a shoulder to cry on if you need it."
His nerves were starting to get to him and he accidentally bit his lip.
"Well, I'm not trying to say that...you really need a shoulder to cry on or anything. I mean, you know, only if you want to. Not that I'm saying you'd want to, but if you did..."
At this point, he was hopelessly caught up in his own words, trying to get himself back on track and hoping that he didn't say something really stupid.

"So, do you have anything you need to move in? Cyn's probably had enough time by now."

Hearing Claire's straightforward answer, Ethan calmed himself down and regained his composure. He cleared his throat and replied.
"Right, yeah, I think my stuff was delivered to the boys' dorm. Let me see if I can get it right this time..."
He took a quick look at the map and pointed to the right.
"Is it...this way?"

Ethan nods and smiles.
"Alright, looks like I'm getting the hang of this!"
Feeling more confident about his sense of direction, Ethan leads the way back to the boys' dorm. Once there, he looks around and soon finds his belongings inside the entrance.
"And...here it is! Since my stuff is here, this must be the place after all."
He then looked back to Claire.
"Hey, um...thanks for all your help, Claire. I really do appreciate it. I'll be okay now, so if you've got something else to do..."
His voice trailed off as he looked around at some of the other students.
"Huh...these guys look kinda down about something. Any idea what's going on?"

"You see, there was an... accident during the summer. A few people died because of it. People are still a little bummed about it." Claire told him in an attempt to brush the down looks aside. "Plus a lot of people's friends graduated last year, so they're depressed about that too." She gave him a reassuring smile.
"Now come on. Let's go see what room you're in."

OOT: Hi everyone, I'm just joining, so this will be interesting

Spoiler:

An interesting new place of school, one that would hopefully suit his needs, especially since the last one fell short of his expectations. Studying viruses, especially RNA, was delicate, if not dangerous work. He hoped that he would really be able to continue his work, and really find a way to reverse engineer them. But, since this was a new place, he really didn’t know where the heck he was going. Hopefully someone would, since he was pretty much lost.

OOT: Feel free to interact with him, he is new afterall

OOT: Hey, welcome to the RP. I'll make sure that my character runs into yours pretty soon, right after we finish up a little something here.

Ethan hung his head.
"That's too bad...I knew that coming here was a little risky, but to hear that someone actually died...what a shame."
When she mentioned finding his room, he nodded and smiled back.
"Right, let's get back to business. Let's see..."
He pulled out a note from his pocket and looked at it.
"So, it should be on...the first floor, room 108. Which would be..."
He looked around and pointed to the left side of the building.
"Right over here!"
With a confident nod, he picked up his luggage and started walking around the corner. There he found room 108, his new home for the next few years. He set his luggage down and looked back at Claire with a slightly shy smile.
"Thanks for all your help, I really do appreciate it."

Welcome Veswolf. Hope you enjoy hanging around with us on TBRP. Just a quick thing, you might want to cut down that picture of your character. In the Insert an Image drop down menu when you go to reply/edit there are two fields where you can adjust the vertical and horizontal pixel amounts. Just something to help people see what your character looks like without having to wait for a huge picture to load.
Another thing, if you have a Skype account, you can message Ella Serenity on this site your Skype stuff and she can add you to the RP Chat talk on Skype, or you can look up ven.roka and I'll add you.

"So you're just leaving me here?" Claire asked, a look of absolute shock on her face. "I still wanted to show you something..." Crestfallen she turned to slowly shamble away.

-------------------------------

Cynthia sighed somewhat irritably as she made her way around campus. She didn't really know what to do now. She could go find Claire and the new guy and see how they were doing, but Claire had probably already dragged the poor kid along to go see her results. Besides, all she would do would be a downer for them right now.
Maybe she should go help with one of the dozens of groups trying to get all of the new students situated on campus. But again, she didn't really feel like it at the moment.
She was caught up in her depression and wasn't exactly looking where she was going. Managing to stop just seconds before the collision, she looked up at the boy in all black.
"Sorry." Noticing the look on his face, "Can I help you with something?"

“Yeah, I’m kinda lost. I’m trying to find my way around campus, but I don’t really know where any of the buildings are. I figure finding my dorm first would do best. By the way, since I don’t really know anyone around here, might I ask what your name is? I’m Michael, and I transferred here from another school. I’m majoring in virology, specifically RNA viruses. I’m also hoping you can tell me what life on campus here is like.” Michael said, looking over his schedule
