Memoire also looked unhappy.

"Political terrorists - there's a revolutionary movement going on against the royal family. Of which it's heavily publicly rumored I'm a member."
He rolled his eyes.
"I'll come with you, make it less awkward. Lead the way."

The woman smiled kindly.
"Now you're starting to get it," she said gently, patting H on the head. "There's a lot more to this than you could have ever imagined. So, shall we get going?"

Riastrad led Xia downstairs and out into the street. "We're going on a warpstone raid. There's a warehouse near the citadel itself where the warpstone is refined and shaped to form manacles and chains, et cetera. We're going to steal enough for our cause."

Lavina shook her head
"I-I don't think I can go. I can't sit and watch someone be put to death"
she looked down at the ground
"Do I really have to attend? Can't I just be in a separate room from the event and wait for everyone?"
she looked up at him giving him a worried look, she didn't want to attend an execution no matter what the person did



H sighed
"I guess I have not other choice if i want to find out more about my master"

"I suppose viewing the actual thing won't be compulsory for you. Women aren't typically allowed to view executions anyway."
Memoire thought about it, then nodded.
"Yeah, I'm sure we can find something else for you to do. There's a garden there, I'm sure we can get you in there."

The woman was already walking away.
"Good girl. Come along, we have much to discuss about you and your master, especially what he told you."

Lavina sighed a sigh of relief
"The garden would be perfect"
she stood up
"Shall we go and tell my father, I think it would be best if you explained to him about it..
she paused a moment to think
"but I would definitely refrain from telling him its an execution"


"what my master told me"
her voice trailed off as she spoke wondering what she meant. She then realized the woman had walked away
"WAIT!"
she called out while catching up to the woman
"What do you mean by what my master told me?"

"Yes and good thinking," Memoire assented. "Lead the way."

The woman was now on the street and had assimilated the pair of them seamlessly into pedestrian traffic.
"Do you have any idea who your master was? His past, his former life, the way he used his abilities?"

Lavina started heading towads her home, upon entering she made her way to her fathers bedroom where she knew he was resting. She turned to look at Memoire
"Father wasnt feel to well earlier so I had told him to get some rest"
she turned back to the door and gave it a knock
"Father its me Lavina, can I come in?"


H shook her head
"He kept a lot of his life, his past a secret from everyone, including me"

The door opened at Lavina's touch, to show Desharin looking at Lavina's sleeping father with an expression that can only be described as longing.
When she noticed they'd entered, she stood up quickly.
"Princess! I..." She blushed and looked down at the ground, saying no more.

The woman smiled.
"Your master was a great man. A great scientist, too - he devoted his entire life to achieving what many considered to be completely impossible. He believed in the possibility of magical conversion - changing Hereditary to Earned magic, something beyond most of our abilities to imagine. You are living proof that against all odds, he succeeded."

Lavina couldn't help but smile seeing her watching over her father
"How is he doing? I'm sure with you around he is sleeping quite peacefully"
she looked over at her father
"I need to speak to him, you can stay if you like"



H looked at her with a confused expression
"so your saying I was one of his experiments?"

Xia's smile grew slightly. "Sounds great." She said, as she walked towards the door. "Let's get us some warpstone."

Desharin smiled a little, still blushing.
"I would like that very much, princess."
Lavina's father opened one eye.
"You're leaving us again," he said sadly.

The woman was leading her through a dark alley.
"You are not an experiment. You are the success! And the key to a great and glorious future for this whole kingdom. Be quick now, it's best we not tarry."

Within a few minutes, Riastrad and Xia were back on the streets, heading towards the center of the citadel.
"Ever committed a robbery before?"

Xia shook her head. "No. This will be the first." She replied honestly. "Why do you ask?"

Lavina gave her father and apologetic look
"Unfortunately I do, I'm so sorry"
she walked over and sat at her fathers bed grabbing his hands
"I promise I will return to you as soon as I possibly can"
she looked at Desharin
"Why don't you two spend some quality time together? I think you will both like that"
she smiled then looked at Memoire
"Would you like to tell my father why we must leave?"


"Be quick? what to you mean?"
she gave the woman a confused look
"where are we going?"

Memoire shook his head.
"I think the details are irrelevant. I will return her as soon as I can. Though, do try and enjoy each other, will you? You may have responsibilities but you're still only hu- er... elvish."
Both her father and Desharin blushed.
Memoire smiled. "Will that be all, Lavina?"

"We must discuss the terms of our deal at a friendly locale."
A black church loomed out of nowhere ahead of them.

"Just curious - I'll walk you through it."
They were now looking at a guarded building, two guards out the front looking straight ahead, the flowing street not even seeming to register with them.
"How would you theoretically rob somewhere?"

Lavina nodded
"that is all"
she leaned in and gave her father a kiss on the forehead,
"Promise me you won't worry to much father"
she smiled at him before standing and giving Desharin a hug
"Please watch over him, I worry about him, I am glad you are with us in this time"
she kept her hands on Desharin's shoulders leaning back and giving her a smile
"Thank you"
she turned letting go of her shoulders and looked at Memoire
"I am ready"


H looked at the church
"What kind of place is this, and what exactly is in the contract?"
she realized she had done nothing but ask a series of questions but at this point she wanted to make sure she wasnt being lead into a trap

Memoire led her outside, took her hand, and then they were flying.
"You know," he asked, as they flew, "if you wanted to, I could fly you anywhere in the world. Just as a favor."

The church was deserted. Only a dripping font indicated any sign of usage.
The woman turned to H.
"My name is Scylla Noone. You go by the moniker H, is that your real name?"

Vincent found himself standing in one of the rooms of his house. Odd. Must have been sleep walking. Vincent walked out of the room and noticed that Kao wasn't there. This was a bi odd because he remembered seeing her there no to long ago. Vincent began to search the house but could find her anywhere. Then he started thinking. What if she used some kind of illusion magic on him and escaped? What if she didn't want to go through with this plan? The though of it made Vincent get angry. He knew there might be a different reason, but the thoughts still pissed him off. Grabbing a knife, Vincent left the house to look for Kao.

Lavina looked up at him
"I wouldn't know where to go, I've never really been anywhere outside my home. I've only traveled as far as the local towns for supplies but we didn't stay long. We elves don't fit in to well with the humans"
she had a sad expression
"All they want to do is destroy whats precious to us."
she looked around pointing out that there wasn't much land that was left untouched by humans.
"aside from that the only other place i have been was your home"
she looked up at him
"I do enjoy being around waterfalls, streams and rivers, if that helps any"
she smiled


H looked up at Scylla
"H is the initial of my first name, I never use it cause I do not like it."
H crossed her arms that was all the info she wanted to give about her name

"Humans are a strange lot," Memoire conceded. "But overall we're not that bad. We may be a little destructive but as we say, you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs."
He looked down at her in his arms.
"There's a lovely place with a lot of waterfalls. I'll take you there on our way back."

The woman smiled appealingly, but it was the smile a star gives on a murderous night.
"Come on, you can trust me... I'm helping you, after all, H just sounds so impersonal..."

Lavina smiled
"I would love that, thank you"
she was silent for a few moments and then she wondered something
"Won't your fiancee be upset you are spending so much time with me and not her?"


H took a step back
"My master didn't even know my name, tell me why I should tell you?"

Kao sighed and walked aimlessly down the street. She had to avoid Vincent for another forty minutes or so. It was odd. Him ordering her away like that. In fact he'd been different every time he'd acted out of character since they'd met. It was a stretch, but maybe her Master had that issue where there was more than one person in his head? Oh well, it wasn't anything that made her dislike him. The only thing that really worried her was how the second Vincent had said the regular one might kill her. If she saw him before he saw her she might put an illusion on him so she could tell him that he'd ordered her to leave in the first place. He couldn't be mad at her then.
A park came up in front of her and without anything else to do she wandered through the manicured lawns and well tended gardens. It was a fake nature, but it was nice in the largely urban sprawl of the capital city. Finding a secluded spot she sat down on the grass and began fingering the hilt of her sword in its new scabbard.
The shop keeper had seemed on the verge of throwing her out of his shop when she asked him for a scabbard for the busted sword. A little persuasion and she'd had him polish and sharpen the broken blade before giving her the perfect scabbard for it. All for free of course. She wondered how useful she'd be to her father if he found out about her gifts. Not that she'd willingly go back to him now, but it didn't really matter.
Taking the boomerangs from their pouch she began to practice throwing them into trees.

Memoire frowned.
"My fiancee will no doubt be too busy gibbering and cackling like an ape - it amazes me she has not yet gone the whole hog and started flinging her own feces. I much prefer you to her."
There was a pause.
"I apologize once again for my actions when I slept in your bedroom. I completely misunderstood the messages being sent and I hope I did not offend you."

Scylla raised a finger.
"Ah, but he did. You may not have told him but do you think he would just allow a student of his to keep secrets?"
She stepped forwards and whispered H's name in her ear.
"Your master told me that. I just wanted to see if your manners matched those he spoke of..."

Lavina giggled when he spoke of his fiancee
"I'm sorry you have to marry someone you don't love"
she said with a sorrowful tone
"As for what happened between us, I accept your apology"
she gave him a sincere smile
"But it didn't offend me"

H's eyes widened when she spoke her name
"B-but how did he know my name was Hope? he never asked me. I just started going by the first initial cause I didnt want my past to follow me, I hated my name cause it was the name my birth parents gave me"

"That's good."
They landed in the castle courtyard, and Memoire bowed with just a tinge of disrespect to his father who was waiting for them.
The king then looked expectantly at Lavina.

Scylla laughed.
"Oh he knew all about you. And I know all about him... now aren't you glad you ran into me?"

Lavina looked at the king and did whats she was taught to do when before someone of higher power. She curtsied, bowing her head as she did this.
"You'r majesty"
she stood up placing her her hands near her lap in front of her awaiting to be told where to go


H shrugged
"I suppose"
she looked around
"so what are we doing here?"

The king turned and led them through towards a large balcony, under which some men in the stocks were clearly visible.
Memoire whispered to Lavina.
"I'm sorry."
The king took his place on a throne on the balcony, and Memoire's family - including his future bride - were all present as well.
Thom was dressed in executioner's garb. Memoire closed his eyes. "No..."

"Discussing the terms of our contract. How many people have you killed?" Scylla inquired.
